The Peace River Reservoir is a 6 billion gallon fresh water reservoir, built to service the Manasota Water Authority region. The project included the supply and installation of a 60 mil textured HDPE geosynthetic membrane. Approximately 1.8 million square feet was installed on the 37 foot tall, 4 mile long embankment. The containment design included tying the membrane to the 1.2 million square foot soil-bentonite slurry wall that was constructed by others. Installation of the embankment containment liner took nearly 6 months to complete.
Due to an emphasis on water supply and water conservation, the construction of water reservoirs has increased in recent years. Impervious liners play various roles in reservoir construction based on the intended consumptive use, criteria for safety in earthen reservoirs and whether or not there is a cover component in use
COMANCO’s expertise in high quality geomembrane lining installations is crucial to the reservoir construction process. Recently, COMANCO completed work on two massive above ground storage reservoirs for different Florida water supply authorities.
