Control of LFG is an essential component of landfill operations. LFG will migrate through the subsurface due to concentration variations and pressure gradients. Gas migration controls can include a variety of passive and active systems such as vent, trenches, barrier walls, vacuum extraction wells, blowers, and flares.
The installation of these systems, alone or in a variety of combinations, can effectively control the migration of landfill gas. In some instances the gas can actually be collected and converted to energy for beneficial use.
