Field trip to Cedar Trail a revelation to office staff

PM Steve Harrison and Superintendents Billy Wilson and Luis Espinal showed off the Cedar Trail Landfill site in March to Greg Kimble, Adelina Rodriguez, Janice McGough, Kathy Peterson, Julie Hughes, Denise Lacaprucia, Nelsy Perez, Lindsey Semko, Debbie Barlow and Caitlin Young. Most of the visitors were relatively new employees who had not yet been out on a site visit to experience the true work of COMANCO. To say it was eye-opening is an understatement!

The visit started off with an extended safety briefing from Safety Director Carlos Campos. He stressed how important it is to observe safety rules on-site, even if you are just a visitor. Once the “office crew” made it to the site they received a walk through of the construction that goes on during a landfill cell closure project. Walking up the slope was quite the workout for the newbies, but the field teams obviously took it in stride. Watching a team of 11 people pull a sheet of liner into place really drives it home how heavy the material is. Pictures can’t do justice to the magnitude of a job site, from the angle of the slope as felt by walking it or the care and dedication required to produce quality work. Seeing the work in action was really instructive, such as for the Fleet accountants got a better idea of how equipment and material are tracked on-site. Thank you so much to everyone who stopped to talk with us, and a huge thank you to all the COMANCO field employees who do such impressive work day after day!
