No quick fix

In nearly 21 years of business, I have never seen so many well established contractors go out of business. Some markets have come to a complete halt. I have not seen so many bidders bidding in our market. Nor have I seen pricing as low as it is today.

Our government seems to think that stimulus and bailouts will be the quick fix to double digit unemployment. However, our politicians do not live in the real world. Unfortunately, for us there is no quick fix.

COMANCO has always been a company that knows there is no quick fix. The only fix to our continual survival as a company is doing what we have always done. We will continue to find ways to reduce the cost of putting units in place. We have always found ways to make continuous improvements in our safety culture, quality culture and service culture. We do not fear the future. We will continue to prepare ourselves for a better future. But let me assure you it will not be a quick fix. We will continue to do what we do better than our competition.

Field Notes

At Left: COMANCO recently won the expansion of CF Industry’s Plant City Phase II Expansion Stack. COMANCO will be working as a prime on this job, installing over 14 million SF of 60 mil smooth and textured liner. Along with the liner, we will be constructing gas and pressure relief systems, seepage relief drains, slope stabilization drains and tie-ins.

At Right: Brian Libby just sent in photos from the Caja del Rio Landfill in New Mexico where the crew has finished installing a John Zink flare. Start up is complete and the 10 day test run will be complete 4/3/10. This project is a great highlight of COMANCO’s diversified construction abilities.

At Left: Project Manager Troy Watral and Superintendent James Kicsak showed Human Resources Director Natalia McElroy around the newly started Veolia Evergreen Landfill site in early April while she and Safety Director Carlos Campos were in Georgia to conduct new hire safety and HR training. COMANCO is the prime contractor for this 22 acre cell opening that includes a clay liner, 60 mil HDPE, leachate collection and sump systems and an access road. The project is expected to complete in August.
