COMANCO was contracted by the State of South Dakota, Division of State Fisheries to line or improve 34 hatchery ponds at the Blue Dog Fish Hatchery located near Wauby South Dakota. The ponds were initially constructed (by others) incorporating re-compacted native soils as the low permeability barrier system. However, it was soon discovered that the leakage rate through these re-compacted soils was far too great and the ponds were not functioning as intended. Consequently it was determined that the best solution would be to line the existing ponds with a significantly less permeable geomembrane lining system.

Worldwide demand for seafood is increasing, and once plentiful natural resources are being heavily taxed. To help supply this demand for seafood, corporations are investing heavily in aquaculture: the cultivation of aquatic populations under controlled conditions. These populations include traditional stock of fish, shrimp and oysters as well as less conventional products such as seaweed and algae.
Geosynthetic liners offer the most economical and efficient solutions for modern aquaculture. Once installed the geomembrane offers superior leak protection and is virtually maintenance free. The flexibility of the geomembrane allows the liner to conform to any size and shape.
COMANCO is a proven leader in the installation of geosynthetic liners for aquaculture ponds and lagoons. Our specialized staff and work force is goal oriented to providing the customer with the highest quality product available. The success of any project depends on proper design and installation.
